I'm a writer/director who hasn't directed a film yet and I've just written my first script, only a short but I think I can make it for next to nothing and I've got another script idea to try for funding for. I've studied film at A and degree level and I've worked on my student films in various roles. I think I can make this with little or no crew but I need a lively, out going producer who can get anything and isn't afraid to grovel if the occasion calls for it.

I work in Birmingham but live in Southampton and so am looking for people in or around those areas.

Email me if I sparked your interest: [email protected]

Lee, how can you call yourself a director if you haven't directed anything yet? You'll find out if you really are or not soon enough.

You might want to just go ahead and produce the film yourself. It will be the best experience, especially on your first effort. Without a body of work to call your own, you will probably be the only one who will care enough to get the ball rolling, much less show up every day. Good luck with your film.

Lee, I am based near Portsmouth and may be able to help. I am neither lively nor outgoing, I've been in the game for far too long. I don't grovel either. If free publicity isn't enough for an entity then they obviously want cash. If you can't pay them what they want, move on.

Send me a copy of your script, or an outline. If I'm interested, I'll let you know in what capacity I am prepared to help.

    N. Foster Tyler,

I appreciate your criticism, no really I do. It's just there are a lot of nay sayers out there and not many "well go for it" types. I'm a film director because, although I've never put anything on film I have directed films, shot scenes and such in my head. I've also worked on various productions as cameraman, sound etc and I've got a degree in the stuff, needless to say I know a thing or two about it.

And, as a quote from this very site says:
Wrong! You ARE a film-maker. The moment you think about that you want to be a fillm-maker you're that. Make yourself a business card that says you're a film-maker, pass them out to your friends, soon as you get that over with and you've got it in your mind that you're one you'll be one, you'll start thinking like one. Don't dream about being a film-maker, you are a film-maker. Now let's get down to business.

That's right, Robert Rodriguez, a film maker no?

Next time you wanna be cynical, don't, we don't need anymore help from that sort.

    Exclamation

I agree with Lee, we don't need that sort of criticism, It's damn hard enough trying to be what I want to be, a film writer / director without having to overcome the obstacles of other amatuer film makers being doubtful.......... Good Luck with your film, keep be posted on how it goes!

    cheers

You guys are so fucking sensative! It's like one little piece of constructive, intelligent criticism is going to totally destroy what little self-confidence that you do have. Who cares what people think or say to you? Is it really going to stop you from doing what you want to do in life? If so, you are not a real filmmaker and you never fucking will be!

This isn't the first time around here that people have started crying over a little observational suggestion. You assholes need to grow up and start believing in yourselves. Don't listen to me, JUST DO IT! I am entitled to my own opinions, however dissenting from the norm they may be. Something that is obviously looked down upon by your average 14 year old.

    Later for you

    N. Foster Tyler, your opinions are like your ass -- THEY STINK!

We are all film makers on this board and if you had half a brain cell you would know that. The purpose of this board is to help each other out not ask dumb stupid questions such as "How can you call yourself a film maker if you haven't made a film?" -- That's the type of question outsiders are supposed to ask.

No, I'm not sensitive I just hate people like you who think they invented the art of film.

Exactly my point. Anybody with a different opinion is automatically regarded as somebody who suffers from mental retardation. Very, very immature. Oh well, what else can one expect from a forum comprised of 14 year-old fucking crybaby wannabes?

    My opinions are valid.

Oh yeah, and Robert Rodriguez sold out two years ago. Give it a rest with that Rebel Without A Crew shit, guys. Its obvious that we've all read the book and its getting pretty stale.

this has nothing to do with your note , i'd just like to say a quick word to mr foster tyler , i usually just read the notes , put the odd comment on and a bit of constructive criticism if i feel i can help , but you sir , mr tyler ...you name keeps appearing again and again and all i ever seem to read is your continuous negative thoughts about anything , you basically never seem to write anything positive , you only offer pointless digs at people , now please stop insulting our intelligence , we are well aware that 99% of us will go no further than this noticeboard along with some amateur filmaking efforts and our dreams , but these are our dreams and this is our passion so mr we've never heard of you either , either start being constructive and positive and drop the swearing and name calling or go start putting your comments on the film bigots noticeboard where you will feel more comfortable.....all those in favour say I !!!!! as a final note i challenge you to offer us here some proof of this amazing film making ability you think you have , the skills and projects that made you fountain of all knowledge .....any website you can direct us to ?? any project we may have heard off ?? i will stick my neck out right now and say the answer is a big no !!! and i hope this note pisses you off as much as you have pissed us off over recent months !!! good day sir !!!

    Talking

Time to get back to the film-making, methinks...

Wide Awake, any relation to Mr Mallet?

Your comment is one of the most negative I have ever seen ... 99% of people on this board will go no further?

I feel this board crumbling as place for the meeting of minds and ideas exchange, it seems more like a place to slag each other off, not to mention, well, the bloke who did that book that has inspired so many :-)

Mind you, I quite enjoy it. Good psychology research, which is always useful for a director to have an understanding of...

I'm in no way defending N Foster Tyler (what does that N stand for anyway??) but you kind of just proved what he's been banging on about for far too long.

Just let it wash over you. Then he might shut up ;-)

    Oh, and a resounding I!!!
